- Boeing B-29 Super Fortress
-
- =============================================
-
- This is a model of a B-29 Super Fortress. It is as complete as memory constraints
- allow. It is recommended that you have at least 16 megs of RAM to safely
- render it in Medium Res. Now for the history lesson.
- The B-29 was developed by the Boeing Aircraft Corp. as an extention of
- their B-17 Program. The U.S Army Air Force,as it was then called, wanted a
- Very Long-Range Heavy Bomber to use in the event that global war occurred
- and no air fields over seas were available. The bomber had to have a range
- of 5000 miles and carry a bomb load of 4000 lbs. After many teething
- problems, specifically with the engines, the B-29 became operational in early
- 1944 after 4-5 years of devolpment and testing. It's dimentions were as
- follows:
-
- Wing Span.............141'3"
- Length................99'
- Cruising Speed(mph)...253
- Range(miles)..........5418
- Powerplant(s).........4 Wright R-3350 Cyclones w/2500hp each
-
- By the end of WWII it also as most people know the first Nuclear capable
- strategic strike aircraft with the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The
- aircraft was used until well into the 1950's until it was finally retired
- from sevice in 1960.
-
- This model is fully ariculate, meaning props, tail and wing surfaces and
- landing gear were created for full animation movement. So ends the lesson.
- Go out and have some fun with it .All that I ask is that if you use it
- for commercial use please extend a small acknowledgment to me for creating
- the model. If you want somthing specific in aircraft leave me a note here at
- this BBS and I'll see what I can come up with.
